2021 Lenten and

Holy Week Schedule

We are eagerly planning outdoor services on Palm Sunday and Easter, and cannot wait to see you and your families in person once again! In the meantime, we will continue to premiere our recorded services at 11AM on Sunday mornings. The services can be viewed through our website, Facebook page or at www.youtube.com/anchoragepresbyterian.

Our worship series for Lent is called “Holy Vessels: A Lenten Season of Recovery.”  Throughout the season, will be contemplating the symbol of broken glass. Since last Lent, we have all been through a harrowing time that has fractured our sense of physical, emotional and spiritual wholeness like a glass vessel, fractured in pieces. As we enter a season of recovery, we will focus on scripture from the Gospel of Matthew and the stories of Jesus, the Healer of our every ill.

February 17, Ash Wednesday, 7PM: Live Zoom worship service with Beulah and Elizabethtown Presbyterian Churches. You will receive ashes in the mail for imposing on your family members or self imposition at a time of your choosing.

March 28, 11AM: Outdoor Palm Sunday Service - We will move from palms to passion as we begin with the story from Matthew 21 about the first Palm Sunday before our children are invited to join in a Palm processional. Some of our middle and high school youth will read a dramatic reading of the Passion story.   See bulletin here.

April 1, 7PM:  Maundy Thursday Zoom Service with Beulah and Elizabethtown Presbyterian Churches.

April 2, 2:30PM: Good Friday recorded service with Epiphany Catholic Church and St. Luke's Episcopal
April 4, 6:30AM: Outdoor Sunrise Easter Service -  As the service begins outside, the good news of the resurrection of our Lord comes within a darkened world. In hushed, natural surroundings like that of a graveyard, the death of Jesus is remembered and mourned. But then, surprising words break upon the scene: “He is risen!” With that announcement, a new fire is lit to symbolize that the light of the risen Christ “shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)  All are welcome to this unique Sunrise service. It will be held in the lower parking lot near our beautiful new Memorial Garden. Please bring your own chair and mask.

April 4, 11AM: Outdoor Traditional Easter Service with communion - The service will be held in the lower parking lot near our beautiful new Memorial Garden. Rev. Tara N. Reck will be preaching on the story of the resurrection in Mark 16:1-8.
